Manakeesh

We first tasted manakeesh at Cozmo, a grocery store in Amman. For just 1 JD ($1.40), we shared this yummy snack. It is special, made-to-order bread topped with akawi cheese, then baked for a few minutes. 

Manakeesh can have other toppings too, like zaatar, but the akawi cheese is delicious. We bought some and have been making our own manakeesh at home, using pita bread. I soak the akawi cheese overnight to remove more of the salt. Another one of those cheap, simple, and delicious meals!
