Think of prayer like a divine gas station. Prayer is where we get filled up. Did you know that years ago people called gas stations “filling stations?” Life can drain us. Prayer is where we get re-energized, recharged, and renewed.
The good thing about God’s gas station is that it does not cost money. All this “gas” costs is our time and our will. It costs our will because our “flesh” does not like to pray! We have to make it go to the “gas station” – to a place of prayer – when it is stubborn.
The amount of “gas” we get far exceeds the cost. In fact, God’s fuel is really cheap compared to what you get in return for what we pay. The bang far outweighs the buck.
We need to keep an eye on our gas gauge. We don’t want to find ourselves stranded on the side of the road because we have depleted our spiritual strength.

Yes, God’s emergency roadside service can bring us a supply of gas to get us going again. But the preferred habit it to fill up when we get low. Our indicators are when we notice that we are spiritually lethargic, when the things of God don’t interest us as much as they should, and when our passion for God is being choked out by the cares of this life.
