One of the things I like about Jordan is its pastoral landscape. Drive on almost any rural road and you will find sheep and/or goats grazing. The Bible's many references to sheep come to life on a regular basis here. Bill likes sheep too and he sometimes pulls over so we can take pictures of them.
Just as fascinating as the sheep are the shepherds who take care of them. We have watched entire flocks of sheep cross the road while traffic stops for them. The shepherd keeps them bunched together and gets them safely from one grazing area to another.
Once, we saw a shepherd on a hillside with one lone sheep. It was an instant reminder of how the Great Shepherd will leave the 99 sheep safe in the fold to search for the one lost sheep. I love that story because it so beautifully portrays God's love for each of us as individuals. His love is personal. And He is committed to us.
Bill took this spontaneous photo of a young shepherd who lived down in the valley where there is a cluster of tents. The young man couldn't have posed better if he'd been in a photography studio!
