We tend to resent God’s invitation to change because we view
change as a loss of our comfort and identity. The truth is that when we change
to become more like Jesus, we do lose our comfort and our identity.
But
in exchange we receive security and comfort from God that we could never
give ourselves. And our new identity is far superior to our old one.
God cannot change (Malachi 3:6). He cannot change His
identity to be more like us. If we want to be closer to Him, we must change
whatever about us is not like Him. God does not need to change. He is perfect. We are the ones who must change.
The more barriers of flesh and carnality we
remove from our lives, the less barriers there are between us and Him.
Communication deepens and our relationship with the Potter grows
stronger. It's a win-win situation.
