If We Had But One Day

I have been working on the long-overdue task of reorganizing my song book. In the process, I came across the lyrics to a song I heard when I was a kid. My parents had a recording of it, which I think was sung by Odell Cagle. As I kid, I found the lyrics thought-provoking. They still are. I am not guaranteed another day of life. Each day is a gift from God, an opportunity to grow in Him and accomplish His will. If we knew that we only had one day of life left, how quickly our priorities would align themselves with the Word of God!

IF WE HAD BUT ONE DAY

If we had but one day to be good and be kind
How much goodness in everyone we would find
Our few human failures we never would mind
If we had but one day

If we had but one day to work and to pray
We would idle no moments away
But an offering so sweet we would bring to Jesus’ feet
If we had but one day

If we had but one day to make all things right
Our work would we finish ere the shadow of night
Our coming together would be a wonderful sight
If we had but one day

If we had but one day to be good and be true
Our goodness would fall like the bright morning dew
Our friendship with Jesus we’d quickly renew
If we had but one day
