Friday, I received some of the best news I have ever received in my entire life. My grandmother, Sylvia Pennington, who lives in Watson, Arkansas, told my uncle Jerry that she wanted to be baptized.
Not long ago, Grandma fell and broke several ribs. She has been in severe pain. Grandma, who has never been much interested in God, has suddenly realized that she needs God in a serious way. She has been praying, something she has never been known to do. She allowed a hospital chaplain to pray for her and asked my Aunt Jeanie to pray for her. These are wonderful steps that have all of us excited and happy for her.
Saturday, the Pennington clan rigged a plan. They got permission from the hospital to baptize Grandma. They decided that the best thing to do was to improvise a baptistry. They bought a horse trough, filled it with warm water, and put in on the bed of a truck. The truck had a ramp. They brought Grandma to the truck on her wheelchair and wheeled her up the ramp. She was lying on a blanket so four men lifted the blanket and set her in the water. In Jesus' name! "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12)!
God is truly deserving of the description "Awesome!" Grandma is 92. Many prayers have been prayed and Saturday was part of the fruition of those prayers. Next step: Receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost!! "For with God nothing shall be impossible" (Luke 1:37)!
That is wonderful news! I know you are all thrilled. God bless.
