A Tale of Two Trailers

In January of 2000, Bill and I bought a 1995 Jayco Designer Fifth Wheel. For those of you who don't know what that is, a fifth wheel is an RV (Recreational Vehicle) that is towed using a fifth wheel hitch installed in the back of a pickup truck. With the exception of our interim pastorate in Maine and our overseas appointments, this 30-foot trailer with one slideout has been our home for over a decade. It has served us well. Jaycos are Amish-built trailers and are durable and solid. But ours was getting old and travel-weary so we made the decision to upgrade to something newer.

The Lord blessed us to be able to purchase (with a bank loan, of course!) a 2005 NuWa HitchHiker II LS. It is 33 feet long and has three slideouts. It is substantially roomier than our Jayco and has a lot of conveniences that we did not enjoy before. For example, to ignite the hot water heater, we used to have to go outside, open a panel, and light the flame. If it was a rainy, windy day, Bill might ask me to stand beside him to help shield the flame so it would not keep blowing out. With our new HitchHiker, we simply turn on a switch inside the RV. Voila! Within about a half-hour, we have hot water!

So, last Tuesday we drove away from Camping World in Churchville, New York with our new home. We are still getting used to it and organizing its contents. Craigslist and my mother-in-law are helping us market and sell our Jayco, which is parked in St. Peters, Missouri. I am thankful for my new house; God has provided us with a new nest!
